Are you looking for a nostalgic way to celebrate the holidays with your family in N.W. Indiana? Join us at the Downtown Hammond Council’s (DHC)

 

10th Annual Holiday Kick-off Celebration:

A Tribute to Jean Shepherd

(Author and Hammond’s Hometown Hero)

 

Events and activities take place along Hohman Avenue between Sibley Blvd. and Ruth Street in Downtown Hammond!

 

EXPLORE and DISCOVER our Downtown!

Visit the participating businesses/organizations, pick up a punch card at any of the participating venues and have the card stamped at each location, join in the fun activities, and then be entered to win a "major award"!

 

“Major Awards” include a $250 Albert’s Diamond Jewelers gift certificate and “A Christmas Story” gift basket from the Indiana Welcome Center!

 

Leave the driving to us! Park your car at one of the downtown Hammond lots and take the FREE shuttle bus.

Shuttle buses between venues provided by Frank J. Mrvan, North Township Trustee.

 

On the day of the event, look for the signs outside of each participating business.

A-frame signs have numbers and wreaths on them.

The number on the sign corresponds to the map for ease in finding each venue.

All activities and events take place between 10 am – 4 pm

-Photo with Santa sponsored by Eichorn & Eichorn, P.C. (at EAT)

  

- Enjoy a delicious turkey dinner at EAT…Get there before the  Bumpus Hounds do!

 

-Share your favorite scene from the movie with Nick Mantis of New Millennium Productions. He will be videotaping guests and you may be included in his upcoming documentary! (at EAT)

 

-Visit Mrs. Shield’s classroom:

Reading with Ralphie/One FREE book per child sponsored by Discover Books (at EAT)

and

-Letters to Santa sponsored by Design Graphics (at EAT)

 

-Shop from hand crafted vendors (at EAT)

 

-Cookie Baking Contest judged by local celebrities

$5 per patch/Registration Fee

Win prizes and bragging rights!

-Movie Character Costume Contest (Adults and Kiddos can dress up in their favorite character from the movie "A Christmas Story")

No entry fee to participate! Win prizes!

-Enjoy a horse and carriage ride in Downtown Hammond!

(Please note that this is the only outdoor activity-outside of EAT.)

1.   Meet the Artists of greenCOW.   Artists will be on hand to discuss their work & methods.

 

2.   Interior Designer Phylis Butler Mamula of Designtech Interiors will discuss and answer questions on how to effectively select and use art in your interiors in the Main Conference Room at 11:30 AM & 3:00 PM  

 

3.   Photography Idea Factory:  Photographer Carol Estes will show you tips & tricks to taking professional Holiday Pics using just your cell phone!

-Design your own Leg Lamp lamp shade sponsored by Lamp Shade House & Antiques $1

Hammond Rocks! Art Project (at Peoples Bank)

It’s Just Serendipity offers one-of-a-kind finds: vintage and antiques, hand made & re-purposed goods by local artists, furniture, gifts, and home decor.

Free toy for kids with a $20 purchase!

 

The Information Booth is also located at It's Just Serendipity,

5630 Hohman Avenue (directly across the street from the Mobil gas station)

 

Maps will be available at each participating business as well as on our website and Facebook page.
